Looking Ahead to 2026–2027

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I hope you are enjoying a well-earned summer.

As we prepare for the 2026–2027 training year, I would first like to thank Maj Pat Duduc for his dedication and leadership as PMC over the past several years, and particularly for his support throughout the transition. Pat has invested countless hours in our Officers’ Mess and its traditions, often behind the scenes. Thank you, Pat.

I would also like to thank LCol David Serapins for his confidence in appointing me to serve once again as PMC. I look forward to working with the Mess Committee and our membership as we prepare for the year ahead.

The Mess
Renovations continue throughout the Regiment, which has made for a quieter summer. Several improvements are already taking shape:

  • New washroom facilities
  • Tap and card payments now available at the bar
  • A functioning kitchen with running water again — not a hard ask for 2026!

We look forward to reopening once the remaining work is complete.

Looking Ahead

Our priorities for 2026–2027 include:

  • Refreshing our traditional Mess dinners and social events
  • Keeping events accessible and affordable, particularly for junior officers
  • Strengthening the Mess financially through the return of annual dues
  • Expanding online ticketing, dues payments, communications and sponsorship opportunities

The aim is simple: preserve what makes our Mess special while making it easier for members to participate, connect and enjoy it.

Have Your Say
In the coming days, you’ll receive a short membership survey covering events, communications and priorities for the year ahead. I encourage all serving officers and associate members to take a few minutes to complete it. Your feedback will directly inform our planning.

Annual Mess Dues
Annual Mess dues will also return for the new training year for all members. These contributions are important to the financial health of the Mess and help support our traditions, facilities and events.

More information on dues and payment will follow before the start of the training year.

Thank you for your continued support of the Black Watch Officers’ Mess. I look forward to seeing everyone back this fall and to another strong year for our Mess and regimental family.

Until then, enjoy the rest of the summer.

Yours Aye,
Capt Tyrone Smith
President, Mess Committee
The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada Officers’ Mess
